On June 24th of this year, history was made. DuCAP Romeoville hosted their first Awards & Recognition Gala, an event created by the teen leader group President Ben Smith. This milestone celebration recognized the impact of teens who have helped shape the Leadership Group into what it is today, and put a spotlight on the adult volunteers and

community partners who helped contribute and support these teens wanting to make a difference. The evening served as an awards ceremony, as well as a celebration of growth, service, and the meaningful connections built through the numerous DuCAP Leadership groups and community leaders and staff.

While celebrating one another's accomplishments, DuCAP Romeoville wanted the gala to leave a lasting legacy for future members. As many of our graduating seniors prepare to move on to their next chapters, they had a desire to create a tradition that would continue inspiring and recognizing young leaders for years to come, long after they have moved on. As the first gala of its kind, the night marked the beginning of what is expected to become a cherished annual tradition.

Led by Benjamin Smith alongside fellow teen leaders, the event was thoughtfully planned and organized from the ground up. From developing the vision to bringing the evening to life, teens demonstrated the collaboration and responsibility, as well as leadership, traits that DuCAP strives to cultivate in every young person.

DuCAP is incredibly proud of the leadership, initiative, and heart demonstrated by these young people. Thanks to the vision and dedication of this year's teen leaders, future generations will have the opportunity to celebrate their accomplishments and continue building on the legacy they created. Their commitment to creating opportunities for others reflects the very mission of DuCAP: empowering youth to lead, serve, and strengthen their communities.
